John Maguire FSIDip, SFIDip – nickname ‘The Boss’
Managing Director
Meet our Managing Director John who started out in the industry in 2001, over this time he has gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge. John then went on to found JM Passive Fire Protection in 2016 and the company has grown into one of the major players within the industry, working with a lot of Tier A contractors and consistently growing year on year.
John firmly believes he is only as good as the team he has around him, and they have all worked hard throughout the years in supporting making the company what it has become today. We aim to keep going in growth and continue to bring more success in the future.
Over the years John has proudly continued to develop his knowledge and build on his experience by achieving qualifications including various NVQ’s, Fire Stopping Inspection Diploma & Structural Steel Inspection Diploma
John enjoys going to watch Everton FC with his two sons as we are season ticket holders. I Enjoy going to the gym and keeping fit and enjoy a nice round of golf.
As well as being a successful business owner John is also very much a family man and says he loves going to watch my youngest son play football on the weekend. John also sponsors the team giving back to the community. As well as sponsoring the football team he also sponsors a local professional boxer Peter McGrail who he is excited to be part of his successful journey in becoming the best he can be.
John is very much the family man and loves going on holiday and spending time with them as much as he can.
John says; “I am very passionate and committed about what I do, and love to support the local community as much as I can. I am also a very bitter blue.”
Dimitar Dimitrov
Thomas Newcombe – Nickname ‘Beast or Tommy’
Meet Thomas who has proudly been a member of the JM Passive Fire Protection team for 5 years, bringing with him extensive experience in contracts supervision, protecting and looking after sites, setting up colleagues on the jobs ensuring health and safety is being followed at all times and being confident in liaising with site management.
Tommy’s qualifications include NVQ LEVEL2 (Passive Fire Protection), NVQ LEVEL 3 (site supervision), Train The Painter, IPAF (3a 3b), MCWP, PASMA and FSIDip.
Outside of the site Tommy is also an Everton FC season ticket holder and enjoys going to watch them each week. He is also a keen golfer and gets out on the course when he can. In general Tommy likes to play and watch most sports to help him relax away from the workplace.
Tommy also thinks going to the gym once a month helps him look good!
John Harrison Maguire – Nickname ‘Little John’
Estimator & Director
Meet John who proudly joined the company 4 years ago straight from school after achieving all of his GCSE’s. During his time here at JM Passive Fire Protection John has worked out on site learning everything he needed to know about how the projects work from start to completion. After 2 and a half years on the tools, John has spent the last 18 months working within the office team supporting his colleagues to understand the potential issues the site workers may come across on a daily basis.
John is always keen to grow his experience and knowledge to ensure the smooth running of every project that JM Passive Fire Protection works on.
Outside of the office John is a Everton FC supporter having been a season ticket holder from a young age.
John’s interesting fact is he has brown hair, blue eyes with a ginger beard!
Clare Threlfall – Nickname ‘Threlly Thrells’
Academy Manager
Meet Clare, our Academy Manager here at JM Passive Fire Protection. She has just celebrated her 2 year work anniversary at the company and has brought a wealth of experience to supporting our learners that attend the academy.
Clare has taught in primary schools across Liverpool for almost twenty years and became interested in helping young people who were facing difficulties in a variety of capacities to overcome challenges. She gained a vast amount of experience supporting young people and adults who had faced trauma, either in childhood or adulthood and found ways to offer support that would help them with their learning and ultimately into employment.
Now working at JM Academy training and filling skills gaps. She offers training and development to those already working within the Passive Fire Protection industry who would like to gain a deeper understanding and gain a qualification or upskill. Clare also helps anyone new to the sector to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding and source employment. We work with NEET individuals sourcing the right training and employability skills for them and help them into the world of work.
Clare’s qualifications include BA QTS HONS English Literature and Education, Mental health first aid, First Aid at Work, Independent Fire Training Fire Stopping Course and ABBE levels 2 and 3 in Fire Risk Assessment.
Away from the office and classroom Clare go to the gym, read a good book and spend time with her family to help her switch off.

Arturas Ribcinskis
Supervisor
Meet Arturas Ribcinskis who has worked here at JM Passive Fire Protection for 4 years. During his time here Arturas has brought a wealth and knowledge to the team including qualifications in NVQ Level 2, NVQ Level 3, FIRAS, Spraying Supervisor, Fire Stopping Supervisor and Fire Barriers Supervisor. As well as being qualified, Arturas brings so much experience including 19 years in the construction industry and 5 years as a fire stopper.
Outside of work Arturas does like to switch off by enjoying time fishing, looking after his fitness and traveling as much as he can.
He has become such a pivotal member of the JM Passive Fire Protection team, always friendly and supportive of his colleagues.
Shaun Sayer – Nickname ‘Saygo and Cakes’
Quantity Surveyor
Meet Shaun who we are proud to say has just celebrated his 1 year work anniversary with us here at JM Passive Fire Protection. Shaun has proudly worked in the construction industry for over 50 years across a variety of interesting roles throughout the UK.
His experience has largely been gained in the fire protection industry and has been employed by a number of the major specialist subcontractors. Shaun has also had a short spell working in the automotive industry and a sales role but quickly realized none compared with working in the construction industry and came to join the team at JMPFP.
Shaun is qualified as BSc Quantity Surveyor
Away from the busy office Shaun is a proud Liverpool FC season ticket holder and enjoys watching his team on a weekly basis. As well as watching football Shaun finds DIY, Gardening and reading helps him switch off.
Did you know Shaun was the Junior arm wrestling champion, skinny arm division of the North Korean League 1969-73.
Shaun considers himself to be a pragmatist who meets problems head on and finds a solution to every problem he encounters and is a team player who is always willing to lend a hand where needed.
Maria Newcombe – Nickname ‘Magz or Moo
Office Administrator
Meet Maria, our office administrator here at JM Passive Fire Protection. She has been with the business for 5 months. She brings a wealth of experience to the role, supporting the team to ensure everything is completed in a timely manner. Maria is also the first point of call when clients call the office to enquire about our services.
Away from the day to day running of the office, Maria has been an Everton season holder for 30 years and enjoys watching them on a regular basis.

She thinks she can dance like Michael Jackson when she’s had a drink!
Harry Sumner – Nickname ‘Hazza’
Operative
Meet Harry who has been with the team as an operative for the past 4 years. Harry has been a fire stopper for 7 years in total bringing a wealth of experience to the team when completing projects for JM Passive Fire Protection.
His Qualifications in NVQ Level 2 Diploma and IPAF
Outside of the site Harry enjoys going to festivals and raves.
Callum Sumner
Contract Supervisor / Project Lead
Meet Callum, one of our project leads here at JM Passive Fire Protection. Callum has 7 years experience in the industry, working at JMPFP for 6 of those years.
His qualifications include Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection, Level 2 Plumbing, Rock wool FirePro education, Firas Supervisor Accredited, SSSTS site supervisor and First Aid Trained
Gerrard James – Nickname ‘Ged’
Operative
Meet Ged who has worked for JM Passive Fire Protection since June 2024. He brings to team a wealth of experience ranging from working as a warehouse manager for over 10 years to running his own successful business for over 5 years. After this he made the decision to use the transferrable to skills he has to move into the passive fire protection industry driven by his passion for wanting to contribute to safety and compliance.

Ged has a passion for football and enjoy keeping fit through various sports and hiking.
He also coaches two children’s football teams, one under 14 and the other under 11, which he find’s incredibly rewarding. Ged is also a huge Everton fan and will always find time to watch the game when it’s on.
Mia Newcombe – Nickname ‘MiMi’
Mia joined the team here at JM Passive Fire Protection in July 2024, she brings passion and willingness to learn about the industry. She will starting her college journey soon to become a Quantity Surveyor, the team here at JMPFP are looking forward to supporting as much as we can along the way. Mia supports the team within the office ensuring everything is organised and processed in a timely manner.
Outside of the office Mia loves spending time with her friends and is also one of the many Everton fans we have here and currently has a season ticket. Interesting fact about Mia is that she can also speak Spanish!
